One killed, three hurt in Ontario accident

An Ontario woman lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash south of Exeter on March 4. Authorities said three other people were also injured in the accident.

According to police, a Jeep Wrangler was traveling north on London Road, also known as Highway 4, between Kirkton Road and Crediton Road when it crossed the centre line shortly after 6 a.m. The Jeep sideswiped an oncoming Toyota Solara then smashed into a southbound Chrysler Intrepid head-on. The Chrysler driver, a 46-year-old South Huron woman, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The Jeep driver, a 19-year-old Middlesex Centre man, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Two occupants of the Toyota were transported to hospital as a precaution and were released. Police are investigating the accident and are looking for witnesses to help them piece together the cause of the crash.

After a fatal car accident, police investigators study the crash scene and interview witnesses to create an accident reconstruction report. This report could be useful if the family of a deceased crash victim chooses to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver who caused the accident. In court, a lawyer could use the report and other evidence to prove that driver negligence, such as reckless driving or distracted driving, directly caused the death of the family’s loved one. If the claim is successful, the family could potentially be awarded damages for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs and loss of income. They may also be entitled to receive damages for other losses, such as a victim’s pain and suffering before death and loss of companionship and support.
