Tricked Into New Car Purchase by Cheap Car Insurance Quote
Our thanks to Mr. Eric Lai of the Toronto Star’s Wheels section for allowing us to participate in his article regarding a reader who was tricked into buying a new car on the basis that cheap car insurance would accompany that specific brand/model of car. The PDF version of the article is here.
Some of the options referred to in Mr. Lai’s article include:
-
complaint against the insurance company and their employee can be filed with FSCO (Financial Services Commission of Ontario);
-
the buyer can ask OMVIC to investigate the dealership’s actions here as contrary to theCode of Ethics – see Sections 4, 6 and 9 – which govern dealerships, pursuant to theMotor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002; and
-
the buyer could have considered starting a lawsuit in the Ontario Small Claims Court.
Our thanks again to Mr. Eric Lai and the Toronto Star.
