1 suffers serious injuries in car accident
A six-car pileup on June 3 in Pickering resulted in four individuals suffering injuries that ranged from minor to life threatening. According to police, the accident occurred just before 4 p.m. when a Dodge minivan that was heading west on Highway 7 by Concession 6 crossed into the oncoming lane, causing it to collide with a Hyundai sedan. Shortly after the initial collision, four other vehicles crashed into the wreck.
The 30-year-old Whitby man who was driving the Hyundai was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge, a 49-year-old Maple man, went to a hospital with serious injuries. Two other drivers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The road was closed after the accident, but it was reopened the same day.
A key question in motor vehicle accident investigations is whether one of the individuals involved in an accident was acting in a negligent manner at the time. Negligence may be clearer in certain cases, such as in a drunk driving accident. In other cases, negligence may not be as apparent. Negligence is when one party does not act in a manner that takes into consideration their own safety as well as the safety of others on the roadway.
An individual who is injured in a head-on collision with a wrong-way motorist may decide to pursue a legal claim against that individual for causing the accident. A personal injury lawyer may be able to use information gleaned from the police investigation to file the claim on the injured party’s behalf.
